Train your canter

British Eventing's Young Rider sponsor Saracen Horse Feeds shares an exercise for you to try at home this weekend.

Train your horse's canter with this great training idea from Saracen rider Connie Copestake. 

  • Set up three sets of three poles on a circle - the first set on a 2m distance, the second on a 3m distance and the third on a 4m distance. 
  • Start by establishing your three different canters (collected, working and medium) over the poles before linking them altogether going from collected to working to medium. 
  • Once established, challenge yourself and test the ride-ability and responsiveness of your horse by going from the medium poles straight to the collected!
