The key is to finish on dressage score (FOD)
Looking at the top five from the last three years, 11 combinations have finished on their dressage score. That is 73% of the top five finishing on their dressage score.

Almost four in every 10 combinations has jumped clear in the CIC3* at Houghton since it started in 2010 (higher than the global average at that level, which is closer to one in four).

Quicker fields
The cross country clear inside the time rate had increased every year apart from 2014. In 2010 and 2011, the first two years of CIC3*, no one made the time. Last year 18% of people made the time. All eyes will be on the weather forecast this year. With a tighter field after the dressage, the cross country time will be a big influence on whether people can move past the leaders or not.

The target is 28.9

The average finishing score with the dressage coefficient removed of the winners at Houghton CIC3* is 28.9 since it started in 2010. This is the type of score our 2018 winner will be looking to finish on.
